Which Size of Coconut Shell Activated Carbon is Most Popular?

2026-01-29

The choice of coconut shell activated carbon particle size is indeed crucial, directly affecting adsorption efficiency and lifespan. Currently, the most popular sizes are mainly 1-2mm, 2-4mm, and 5-10mm. The specific choice depends on the application scenario.

Water Treatment:

Drinking Water Purification: 1-2mm or 2-4mm particles of coconut shell granular activated carbon are commonly used, with an iodine adsorption value of 800-1000mg/g sufficient.

Industrial Wastewater Treatment: For poor water quality, 2-4mm or larger particles (e.g., 4-8mm) are typically chosen, requiring a higher iodine adsorption value (900-1200mg/g) to enhance adsorption capacity.

Gold Adsorption:

Gold Extraction: 5-10mm and 6-12mm are the mainstream sizes due to their larger particle size and higher strength (≥98%), effectively reducing wear and improving gold adsorption efficiency.

Other Applications

Air Purification: Small particle sizes of 1-2mm or 2-4mm are commonly used, suitable for small equipment or home environments.

Industrial Waste Gas Treatment: Columnar (2-4mm diameter) or larger particle sizes are frequently used to accommodate continuous adsorption processes and reduce pressure drop.

In general, 1-2mm and 2-4mm are the most versatile sizes, while 5-10mm and 6-12mm are more popular in specific applications such as gold adsorption. The choice should be made based on your specific application scenario and water/gas conditions.
